LasLab: “Participation in the Making of #ŁUBart”

This five-hour performance in the forest will be an event situated at the intersection of object theatre, installation, music, performance art and participatory experience. At its centre will be an object, puppets / animants, and the presence of the performer, who — through gesture, movement, touch, arranging, shifting, constructing and deconstructing forms — will explore the relationships between emptiness, closeness, feeling and presence.

The project grows out of a reflection on emptiness as artistic material. Here, emptiness will not be understood as absence, but as a space of possibility: a place where tensions, relationships, intuitions and images can emerge. The performance is inspired, among other sources, by Plato’s Symposium and by Małgorzata Tarasewicz-Wosik’s own research on emptiness, the experience of nothingness and new forms of expression in scenography and puppet theatre.

An important element of the event will be the puppet, treated as a human template — a symbolic everyman, a form similar to us and at the same time alien, open to transformation and new interpretations. The performance will explore what happens to the puppet when it is placed in a state of suspension, disintegration, closeness or reconstruction.

The audience will be able to enter the event at any moment and remain for as long as they wish. The performance will last continuously for five hours, creating a space for individual contemplation, observation and one’s own experience of time. The forest will become a space of duration, concentration and flow — a space in which art will emerge between performers, objects, sound, nature and audience.

Ecology and the creative process are also essential to the project. The objects, installation and puppets are created with the aim of reducing waste and using recycled or recyclable materials.
