L.Stadt

L.Stadt is a legendary quartet from Łódź, known for its emotionally charged blend of rock, psychedelia, country and pop. Recognised for songs such as “Oczy Kamienic”, “Ciggies” and “Londyn”, the band has released four highly acclaimed albums: L.STADT (2008), EL.P (2010), YOU GOTTA MOVE (2013) and L.STORY (2018). Yet live performance has always been L.Stadt’s true element and defining strength.

The band has played hundreds of concerts in Poland and abroad, including shows in Croatia, Serbia, France, Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia, Russia, Hungary, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada and the United States. L.Stadt has captivated audiences with an emotional and spiritual fusion in which two drum kits created an energetic, trance-like foundation for the unconventional harmonies of guitar, piano and bass, accompanied by inspired vocals.

L.Stadt’s concert at this year’s LasFest will be special not only because the band has been performing less frequently in recent years. It will also be an opportunity to hear new, previously unreleased L.Stadt songs.

In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, a unique project entitled Ptaki Smutku (Birds of Sorrow) was created on the initiative of the Dialogue Center in Łódź. It combines original music by Łukasz Lach and L.Stadt with texts by Jeszajahu Szpigel (1906–1990), a metaphysical poet from Łódź. His difficult yet liberating poetry inspired material that is unconventional both lyrically and musically—seemingly dark, yet ultimately directed towards light, renewal and rebirth.

For the time being, the project exists only as a live performance. Difficulties in clarifying the rights to the poet’s dispersed body of work have delayed the release of the material as an album. During the concert closing LasFest, alongside songs from the band’s earlier releases, L.Stadt will perform several pieces from this exceptional project.
